Samsung Galaxy S8 is sold at Japanese market with the locked-network models, such as SCV36 (this model is locked Au KDDI network) and SC-02J (this model is locked Docomo NTT network).
Au KDDI is one of the biggest networks of Japan, this network supports both CDMA and GSM baseband, so Samsung S8 with SCV36 model can use all GSM simcards. But if you put non-Au simcard, Galaxy S8 will say "Invalid simcard", because it's locked-model, so you need unlock GSM network for Samsung S8 SCV36.
